Totally agree with you on the overall review!
I thought it was a great way for the original franchise to come full circle (before Mystery Incorporated came along at least) and answer a few questions long time fans may have wondered about. The animation was well done and it was nice to see the gang had to grow up sometime and go their separate ways – at least for a while. Best of all, we got “nightmare fuel” in the form of the zombies and the cat people!
I did have a nitpick with Shaggy & Scooby holding down an airport job (though considering the stupidity of the TSA, I may have to reconsider that notion) as I’d imagined them being competitive eaters riding the circuit of hot dogs, and chicken wings with great success.
Velma doesn’t seem to be in the right job either. Someone like her should have been working in a crime lab, not a bookstore.
Fred & Daphne’s career path actually made sense and was believable. If the movie were made today, they’d probably have a blog and/or a reality show in the vein of “Ghosthunters”.
Trouble is, most of the DTVs that followed went back to the old formula of fake monsters and I think that was a big step backwards. I am still hopeful future Scooby Doo DTVs will return to the darker storylines of “Zombie Island”.
